RWE Power AG

RWE Power, an integral part of the RWE Group, is one of Germany´s leading enterprises in energy production and generation. As major German electricity producer. RWE Power relies on a broad-based energy mix and can largely fall back on its own raw-material base. The broad energy mix enables the Company to respond to events flexibly and successfully and to sustainably manage the goals of environmental protection, security of supply and economic efficiency in a setting of ever fiercer competition. In this respect, RWE Power is pursuing the aim of underpinning its competitive position on the German electricity market by maintaining and renewing its generation capacities.

The market environment is characterized by ambitious CO2 reduction targets and the sustainable expansion of renewable resources which leads to greater fluctuations in feed-in. This accelerates electricity-price volatility and the need for flexible residual power plants and electricity-storage facilities to ensure the security of supply.

Which is why enhanced flexibility in the power-plant portfolio and in the opencast mines is deemed one of the most important challenges. Growing electricity-price volatility requires the expansion of a market- geared power-station dispatch and an increase in power plants flexibility parameters.

For existing plants, RWE Power ensures best- possible operations, specifically by raising market- geared availabilities and optimizing cost management, also in view of asset preservation and fuel costs. Process efficiency in maintenance and in interdisciplinary functions, as well as industrial safety are being continuously improved.

In the medium term, the focus will be on the further development of the power-plant portfolio, specifically by optimizing existing systems and by selective new-builds. This includes prolonging the economic service life of existing plants by taking refurbishment measures and increasing plant efficiency, along with pinpointed power-plant renewals.

RWE Power employs a workforce of some 16.000.
